There were rumors going on a while back about two separate projects based on V, one being developed by ABC the other by NBC (property rights are tricky). I don't know what NBC is up to, but ABC has a trailer featuring Morena Baccarin (Firefly), Scott Wolf (Party of Five) and Joel Gretsch (The 4400). Rumor has it Alan Tudyk is also part of the cast.

As is all the rage these days, the writers apparently have a plan for the series, which—if all goes well—will last for four seasons. Oddly enough, those four seasons could each have anywhere from thirteen to twenty-two episode. That's right, the plan is flexible enough that it could be anywhere from fifty-two to eight-eight episodes. Interesting.

I've watched the trailer (I'll link to it later, but I'm pretty sure you can find it on SciFi Wire) and I'm intrigued. The biggest difference I see is that the Nazi allegory has apparently been replaced with a more religion/cult theme. I hope this doesn't bode ill for the series, as other recent shows with religious themes have disappeared almost before anyone got a chance to watch them (Does The Book of Daniel ring any bells? How about Kings?).

There's that optimism we all love!

Here's my theory on possible outcomes for V: The Series.

1. It'll be good. Really good. Which means no one will watch it and ABC will dump it after six episodes.
2. It'll be bad. Really bad. Which means no one will watch it and ABC will dump it after six episodes.
3. It'll be kinda so-so, but nothing else will be on so everyone will watch it. Then it will get pretty good for a while, so ABC will decide they need to run it beyond the planned four-season arc. They'll force the writers to change key elements in the story to allow for a fifth and sixth season. These seasons will ultimately tank, alienating fans until the show limps to the end of the sixth season and dies.
4. It'll be good. Really good. Against all odds, it will find an audience and ABC will run through the four-season story arc exactly according to the original plan. But the ending will suck and Miller will be pissed.
